Independent Server Hosting

One of my hobbies has always been building and maintaining computers. After working in I.T., this expanded to servers and server hosting. I eventually formed a server hosting business with a friend and former IT coworker. Combining our resources, we have a small company offering website hosting, game servers, and virtual machines for our customers to use. From this, I get to keep my customer service skills sharp, continue to build new Linux/Unix skills, as well as keep up to date on the latest in server hosting, software, and administrative technologies.

A server haul from our local surplus

Most of our servers are either running Debian or ESXi. The Debian servers are usually used for hosting Apache websites, video game servers, cloud storage servers (NextCloud), and include our internal DNS and DHCP servers. The ESXi servers are running vSphere to host several Windows 10 virtual machines. These virtual machines are used by customers as workstations. These have been used for computational research purposes, as well as giving students a Windows 10 machine when their MacBook can’t run a piece of software needed for class.
